A new Pantone color: Very Peri has been named color of the year for 2022
PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri, the happiest and warmest of all the blue hues, has been named the color of the year for 2022. The purple hue was informed by the rise of the metaverse, as well as the impact of coronavirus lockdowns.
According to Pantone, the firm that creates one of the most well-recognized color standards, this color combines the "constancy" of classic blue with the "energy and excitement" of red. Pantone has chosen a hue that wasn't in its existing catalog as its Color of the Year 2022
"As we move into a world of unprecedented change, the selection of Pantone 17-3938 Very Peri brings a novel perspective and vision of the trusted and beloved blue color family,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of Pantone's Color Institute.
"Encompassing the qualities of the blues, yet at the same time possessing a violet-red undertone, Pantone 17-3938 Very Peri displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expression."
Pantone has picked a Color of the Year every year since 2000. The Pantone Color Institute, its research arm, undertakes trend forecasting research to inform its decision.
Last year, the company deviated from tradition and chose two tones as its colors of the year. Ultimate Gray, a light gray, and Illuminating, a bright yellow, were its color selections for 2021.
