Interior panels in a modern apartment
An interior panel (bas-relief) is not just a work of art. It transforms the space and creates the right mood. A correctly selected interior panel can make any room both stylish and harmonious. Today, many successful designers know how to make a panel a connecting element of decor that forms the overall concept of the interior.
At the end of 2024, DECO LINE created an interior panel for decorating a fireplace in a private apartment in a clubhouse in the very center of Moscow. The project's authors are architects Maria and Igor Sedmov (Studio of the author's design and architecture NomadForm).

In the center of the space there is a living-dining room with an area of 55.0 m². According to the designers' idea, the fireplace is decorated with a plaster interior panel. The source of inspiration before ordering the panel was the surroundings of the house - authentic architecture, a view from the window onto squares and boulevards. Therefore, natural motifs are repeated in the decor of the interior panel framing the fireplace. The search for forms led the authors to the image of mountain ranges. This type of panel looks incredibly impressive in the rays of the setting sun, which create a play of textures and textures.
Types of panels for interiors
When we talk about how to make a panel over a fireplace, it is important to understand that it should match not only the style of the room, but also the shape of the fireplace. To do this, you need to consider the size, texture and color of the fireplace so that the interior panel fits organically into the overall style. Several of the most popular styles today:
• Classic style
A classic interior panel is made of plaster. Often, plant motifs, ornaments and sculptures are used in this type of panel. If your fireplace is made in a classic style, it is better to order a panel that repeats its elements. An interior panel in a classic style looks harmonious in an interior with antique furniture and exquisite textures. It creates an atmosphere of elegance and comfort, and is perfect for living rooms decorated in warm colors.
• Minimalism
A very relevant type of panel, characterized by restrained, laconic forms. Often they are made in the form of abstraction, geometric shapes, often with the use of backlighting.
In the same project, which we began the story above, DECO LINE made a round interior panel DUNE with contour lighting. It decorated the opposite wall of the room with a logical response to the panel above the fireplace.

• Ethnic style
Ethnic themes suggest using traditional motifs. The panel can depict national ornaments of different cultures or elements of nature. If you want to add authenticity to your interior, you should order a panel in the ethnic style. Such interior panels look very stylish, especially in a country house or in eco-hotel interiors.
Sizes: interior panel VS fireplace
The size of the interior panel is of great importance. How can a panel be made that is in harmony not only with the fireplace itself but also with the furniture in the room? A larger panel or bas-relief becomes an accent, while small elements can be used to create details.
Remember to place any type of panel above the fireplace at eye level. This way, the viewer can better see and appreciate the work. Professional designers advise adhering to the rule that the upper part of the interior panel should be with the upper edge of the fireplace in the ratio of the golden section.
